PUC's Compact Flourescent Light Bulb Fundraiser!

Compact fluorescent light bulbs are clean, green, and economical. Consider the following:

  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs consume less energy than their incandescent counterparts. For example, a 75-watt incandescent light bulb outputs 1170 lumens (a measure of light output).  In contrast, a compact fluorescent light bulb producing an equivalent amount of light (1200 lumens) consumes only 20 watts!  Consuming less energy is beneficial to the environment because it means fewer pollutants are added to the air by utility companies.  Consuming less energy is beneficial to you because it'll save you money!

  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs last longer than incandescent light bulbs. The average life of a compact fluorescent light bulb ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 hours (depending upon use and bulb type), while the average incandescent light bulb ranges from 750 to 1,000 hours.  The result is a saving of $25-$50 over the life of the bulb!  Longer bulb lifespans also mean fewer light bulbs in our landfills.
  • Many compact fluorescent light bulbs are about the same size as an incandescent light bulb, they produce a similar quanity of light, and they can fit into most incandescent light bulb fixtures. Significant improvements in the size and quality of compact fluorescent light bulbs have been made in recent years.  The newer bulbs don't hum, buzz, or flicker, and they product light more like that emitted by incandescent light bulbs.  They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding one that fits your lamp.
