Wooly Works is a locally owned and operated fine yarn shop in Alfred, Maine dedicated to providing you with the highest quality traditional yarns, patterns, and all sorts of exciting supplies. Our goal is to make this a shop you love to come to, either to explore a new project, choose a special gift, or just sit and enjoy some uninterrupted knitting time.

We highlight the classics at Wooly Works, designers like Elizabeth Zimmerman and her daughter Meg Swansen, Pricilla A. Gibson-Roberts, Nancy Bush, Alice Starmore, and Beth Brown-Reinsel are some of my favorites as well as many others.

We will be including as much of the work of as many Maine Spinners as is possible. I find the work of our local Spinners to be both beautiful and very high quality, and we will be working now with several spinners to offer you their own special yarns.

You will also find yarns from Brown Sheep, Plymouth, Green Mountain Spinnery, Phildar, Tahki, and will soon find selections from Peace Fleece as well. We are also We are also actively exploring the Irish, Welsh, British, Australian and New Zealand mill's with the hope of bringing in some truly authentic Gansey and other yarns, as well as some other exciting hybrids.

Currently our library includes the periodicals Interweave Knits, Knitting Now, Knitter's , and Knitter's News. We also have many books, both for you and for children. There are a wide selection of patterns to browse through from Fiber Trends, Yankee Knitter, Minnowknits, Hayfield, Classic Elite and more. We have lots of options for the American Girl and Magic Attic dolls as well - little icelandic sweaters, and an adorable cotton sweater and skirt set, just to name a few.

There are also ideas from Bear Brain Enterprises, a company that gives you the opportunity to create some of the most adorable knit and felted bears we have ever seen. They will have a knitted kitty soon, and also a knitted bunny. They will also be offering a line of clothes for these or any stuffed "buddies" we may have.
